On behalf of the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council, welcome to the 5th annual In The Mind’s Eye: Issues of Substance Use in Film + Forum.
For several years, the Crime Prevention Council has recognized the role of substance use and addiction as a risk factor for crime. Through In The Mind’s Eye and other initiatives, CPC strives to address issues of stigma and stereotypes, and to facilitate community based solutions. It is our hope that residents, students, and professionals enjoy this exceptional series as we attempt to move forward on the critical issues that affect all of us in ways many are only beginning to understand.
Unique in North America, and recently nominated for a national award, In The Mind’s Eye is an insightful and eclectic look at issues of substance use. Events combining film, workshops and keynote speakers make this look at substance use real and relevant.
Many local organizations and people have informed the direction of In The Mind’s Eye 2009 and the programming highlights diverse aspects of drug (including alcohol) use in Waterloo Region and beyond. The programs do not necessarily reflect the views of CPC or its community partners but rather, are a reflection of interests in our community.
We hope you enjoy the film and workshop lineup, and welcome guests from near and far. Many guests and participants come with experience using legal and illegal drugs, through time spent in prison, involvement with gangs or sometimes, all three and more.
In The Mind’s Eye 2009 is your best opportunity to learn more about issues that affect many of our friends, families, clientele and sometimes ourselves and our co-workers. On behalf of the ITME team, please take a moment to check us out, share with your networks and join us for a rare and real glimpse into issues of substance use in Waterloo Region.
Sincerely,
John Shewchuk
