Issues and Challenges in Drug Enforcement

NOVEMBER 9
1:00 – 3:00 P.M.
Canada Room, The Waterloo Region Record
160 King Street East, Kitchener

NOVEMBER 25
7:00 – 9:00 P.M.
The Loft, Kinbridge Community Association
200 Christopher Drive, 2nd Floor, Cambridge

This workshop will be presented by members of the Waterloo Region Police Services Drug Enforcement Team and senior staff.

In 1908, Canada’s first drug control legislation was passed.  One hundred years later, the criminal justice system – police, courts and corrections- is one of the most significant interventions used to address drug (including alcohol) problems. Half of the costs of the criminal justice system in Canada are attributable to drug-related issues.

The scale and scope of the issues are an immense challenge that transcend the borders of Waterloo Region.

This session will provide an overview of local enforcement approaches and challenges related to intoxication, production, possession and trafficking issues with an opportunity to ask questions of drug enforcement officers from Waterloo Region Police Service.
